Margherita Porra, Creative Director & Founder
Margherita Porra, Creative Director and founder of arithmetic, is known for her innate talent in unique brand creation, cultural trend clairvoyance and paired down, symbolic design. Equal parts analytical and creative, exclusively custom and exquisitely tailored, Margherita’s design style displays a symmetry, elegance, and sophistication with the subtle yet unmistakable mark of contemporary wit.
Following her formal education in Graphic Design and International Business - graduating with honours - Margherita launched her design career in the hectic fashion industry. She brought her unique artistic vision to life through the creation and translation of textile designs for fashion pieces sold worldwide for Canada’s #1 selling junior girls street wear line, all the while honing a keen production sensibility while working hands-on with skilled artisans.
With extensive design experience in consumer goods categories, Margherita has worked on everything from brand vision and strategy to corporate identity, packaging, environmental graphics, and product design. She has over thirteen years of experience designing for retail focused product producers, with a specialization in health, food, and fashion. She weaves her personal life’s passions and health goals into the art and strategy that she creates for clients, designing from an empathetic standpoint she approaches each project from a consumer centric perspective to create heartfelt designs that resonate intimately in each consumer engagement.
Margherita’s core belief is that great design tells a story. It has the innate ability to move a product from one category to another, increase yield, creates efficiencies and, most of all, adds beauty to the interaction.
Over the past thirteen years, Margherita has received numerous design awards, including the coveted AACE Award for Design Excellence in Canada 2014/15 - awarded to only one firm each year, the globally esteemed Pentaward (Silver 2014), Excellence in Typography from Communication Arts Magazine (January 2014), Two Applied Arts Magazine Awards (2014), 8 International Gallery Awards, with her packaging design work published countless times in the Dieline, Taschen’s Packaging Design 3, Applied Arts Magazine, Idn Magazine, Lovely Package, Choi’s Package Book, Lurzer’s 200 Best Packaging Designs 2015, Hightone Packaging Book, Pattern-Base Book, Georgia Straight, Fashion Magazine, and featured multiple times on Shaw TV. Margherita’s design philosophy: “Metodo Lenta Lavorazione” extols the virtues of taking time to make things properly.
